Sheikh Hasina has targetted Tarique Rahman: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has targetted BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman because she has become scared of him.”The government implicated Tarique Rahman in a false case. The ruling party including the prime minister can’t tolerate the farsightedness, popularity and emergence of Tarique Rahman anymore,” he said while addressing a press conference at the BNP Chaiperson’s political office at Gulshan in the capital on Wednesday evening.

Though there are some 4.9 million cases pending with courts to be disposed off, the case proceedings against Tarique Rahman and Zubaida Rahman moved at the speed of light at the directive of Sheikh Hasina,” Fakhrul said. The BNP secretary general observed that the judgement was delivered in order to keep the opponents from the upcoming general elections and political fields. The government is implementing its blueprint using the judiciary. They want to cling to power at any cost.Mirza Fakhrul said, “It has become clear from this repression that the government doesn’t want to keep any opponent on the ground. They don;t want that we take part in the upcoming elections. The government has exposed its political vengeance by doing such things. They have made themselves ridiculous by playing with false cases.”

But they won’t be able to suppress the ongoing movement by resorting to such heinous activities, because people have rejected the judgement,” he said.

“Our demand is one point. It includes Awami League government’s resignation, abolition of parliament etc,” he said.

BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Gayeshawar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, among others, were present at the press conference.
