BCL factions clash leaves 10 injured in Pabna

At least 10 people were injured in a clash over previous dispute between two factions of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Pabna on Saturday night.The clash broke out at around 10.30pm in Masumbazar area in the city.

Among the injured, several sustained bullet wounds and another was admitted in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in critical condition.According to locals, the clash broke out between the supporters of BCL leader Ifte Arafat Sifat, former organising secretary of Pabna municipal unit BCL, and the supporters of Mehedi Hasan, vice president of Pabna district unit BCLTthere was longstanding enmity between Sifat and Mehedi over establishing supremacy in Masumabazar area. Recently both groups locked in a clash at Pabna Mohila College area and as a sequel to that, a clash broke out on Saturday night when supporters of Sifat suddenly attacked the men of Mehedi, they said.Meanwhile, both Mehedi and Sifat blamed each other for the attack.Pabna Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Kripa Shindhu Bala said being informed, additional police were deployed in the area as a tense situation was prevailing in the area following the fighting.No case was filed yet in this regard, the OC added.
