AL leader accused of beating woman to death

A local Awami League leader has reportedly beaten a woman to death at Karimganj upazila in Kishoreganj district over collecting owed money.The victim was Bilkis Akter, 30, wife of Abdul Karim, a resident of Indachulli village.Locals said victim Bilkis Akter’s husband Abdul Karim borrowed Tk 50,000 from local AL leader Nur-e-Alam. On Sunday afternoon, Nur-e-Alam went to Karim’s house to take the borrowed money from there. The accused locked into an argument with Bilkis Akter when he came to know that the latter’s husband was not present in the house.

The AL leader started beating the woman at one stage of the altercation.

Bilkis Akter was later rescued in critical condition but died on the way to hospital to her injuries.

Accused Nur-e-Alam is president of AL’s Ward No-7 of Gundhar Union.

Karimganj Police Station officer-in-charge Shamsul Alam Siddiqui said the body has been recovered. Legal action is under process in this regard.
