Thousands join BNP’s march in Gazipur

Leaders and activists of BNP’s Gazipur unit have started their road march programme this morning to press home their one-point demand for polls under a non-party interim government on the streets.

They started the march from the district’s BNP office at 10:30am. They will end the march at Bypass area in Joydebdur intersection.

This programme is being carried out as part of the joint announcement of the first phase of the party’s simultaneous mass movement, reports our local correspondent.

BNP Gazipur district President Fazlul Haque Milan, General Secretary Shah Rayazul Hannan, Metropolitan BNP President Shaukat Hossain Sarkar, General Secretary Manjurul Karim Roni and thousands of leaders and workers of the party were present at the procession.

Fazlul Haque Milon said, “Today’s march is to demand the resignation of the current government that has revoked the right of the people of Bangladesh to vote; the dissolution of the existing illegal parliament; the formation of a neutral government during the election period; and the restructuring of the Election Commission under which the system of free, impartial, fair, and inclusive elections is conducted.”The leaders and activists claimed that various vehicles including battery-run auto-rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and pickups were searched at Nuran Bazar area under Kaliganj upazila and Kapasia Fakir Majnu Shahat Bridge under Kapasia upazila from morning.During the party’s rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan headquarters on July 12, BNP announced that it would march in all city and district headquarters on July 18 and July 19 respectively to materialise their one-point demand.
