School teacher killed in Gopalganj road accident

A former school teacher was killed being hit by a motorcycle on the Dhaka-Khulna highway at Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj district on Saturday night.The accident took place at around 9.30pm in Tuku Bazaar area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Zafar Ali Munsi, 62, son of late Tahajjet Hossain Munsi, a resident of Ghonapara village under the upazila. He served as an assistant teacher of a primary school in the area.Quoting locals, Bhatiapara Highway Police outpost in-charge Khan Shariful Islam said the accident happened when a speeding motorbike hit Zafar Ali while he was crossing the highway, leaving him critically injured.

Locals took him to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor referred him to Khulna Medical College Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital around 11.30 pm while undergoing treatment.Being informed, police recovered the body from the hospital and handed over to the family without autopsy upon their request.Police also seized the motorbike, however, its driver fled away from the spot, the police official added.
