One gets 17 years jail in arms case in C’nawabganj

A court here on Sunday afternoon sentenced a man to 17 years rigorous imprisonment in a case lodged under arms act. The convicted person was identified as Shariful Islam, 29, son of Ketab Uddin of Mirzapur Namopara under Shibganj upazila of the district. Senior Session Judge and also the Judge of the Special Tribunal-1 Md. Adeeb Ali pronounced the verdict in presence of the convict. According to the prosecution, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shariful with two foreign made pistols, three magazines and three bullets from Golapbazar area of Shibganj upazila on April 23, 2022. On the next day sub-inspector Nikhil Chandra Sarkar of RAB-5 filed a case against him with Shibganj Police Station. Investigating officer of the case sub-inspector Barun Sarkar submitted a charge-sheet against Shariful to the court on April 30 of the same year. After hearing the witnesses, the court handed down the punishment. Public prosecutor Advocate Nazmul Azam said the court gave seven years imprisonment under section 19(F) and ten years under section 19(A).The convicted person would suffer the punishment in both the terms one after another, the PP added.
