On way to Nayapaltan from Tangail, 12 BNP and JCD men hurt in attack

Twelve local leaders and activists of BNP and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) in Tangail’s Dhanbari upazila were injured in an attack by unidentified criminals early today.

They were on their way to the BNP rally in the capital’s Nayapaltan when their microbus was stopped by 30 to 40 people in Nagda Shimla area of Gopalpur upazila around 2:00am, BNP’s Dhanbari upazila President Azizur Rahman said.

The unidentified people then attacked the leaders and activists and also vandalised the vehicle, he added.

The injured were first rushed to the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex and many were later referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting health complex officials, who wished to remain anonymous.

BNP’s Dhanbari upazila Joint General Secretary Jahedul Islam Mahabat, JCD Convener Sharif Hossain, Joint Convener Vijay Sarkar, Member Secretary Saiful Islam, and BNP’s Dhanbari upazila President Azizur Rahman’s son Habib Hasan were among the injured people.When contacted, Gopalpur Police Station Officer-in-charge Mosharraf Hossain told The Daily Star that he had heard about the incident.”If complaints are received, action will be taken after investigation,” the OC said.
