Meghna trawler capsize: Child’s body recovered, four still missing

The body of a child, who along with her five family members went missing after a trawler capsized in the Meghna River on Friday, was recovered on Sunday morning.Members of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Navy, Coast Guard, Fire Service, and Naval Police recovered the body at around 7.00am from Shatnal area under Matlab upazila in Chandpur district while operating rescue drives.

The dead child was identified as Jannatul Marwa, 8. With this, the death toll in the trawler capsize rises to two while four members of the same family, including 3 children, are still missing.Earlier on Saturday night, the rescue team had to stop the rescue operation due to adverse weather conditions. Then, they resumed the operation on Sunday morning and recovered the body.The incident took place on Friday evening, when a group of family members were returning Gajaria by the trawler after visiting a spot in Kishoreganj. On the way, when they reached in Gajaria Ghat area around 6.30pm, the boat capsized in the mid-river after being hit by a bulkhead. Six members of a family went missing at that time.Being informed, rescue team started searching for them and recovered the body of a mother on Saturday morning.
