Man gets life term in C’nawabganj drug case

A court in Chapainawabganj on Wednesday afternoon sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment in a drug trading case.The court also fined him Tk 50,000, in default, he will have to suffer two years more in jail. The convict is Abdul Matin, 33, a resident of Charpanka village under Shibganj upazila of the district, TheDailySpark reports.

Chapainawabganj Senior Session Judge Md Adeeb Ali handed down the verdict in presence of the convict. According to the prosecution story, on a tip off, an operation team of RAB-5 conducted a raid at Kamlakantapur mango orchard of the upazila on August 8, 2019 and arrested Abdul Matin with 9,765 Yaba pills.On the same day, sub-inspector Abdul Momin of RAB-5 filed a case with Shibganj Police Station accusing Abdul Matin and Alamgir under Narcotics Control Act.Investigating officer (IO) of the case sub-inspector Nuruzzaman Khan Manik of Shibganj Police Station submitted charge-sheet to the court against the accused on September 16, 2019.After hearing the witnesses the court handed down the punishment.Another accused of the case was acquitted as the charges brought against him were not proved.
