Govt distributes 495 tonnes of rice among 990 puja mandaps in Khulna

The government is distributing 495 tonnes of relief rice among 990 puja mandaps in nine upazilas and metropolitan areas of the district ahead of Durga Puja. Durga Puja, the biggest festival of the Hindu community which will begin on October 20 with the incarnation (Bodhon) of the goddess Durga on panchomi and formal celebration of maha sashthi at all temples. On the occasion, the authorities have started distribution 500-kg rice toeach puja mandaps of the city and district. “The district administration with the assistance of upazila administrations and authorities of local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) is distributing the rice,” District Relief and Rehabilitation officer (DRRO) Md Abdul Karim told BSS today. The distribution of the allocated general relief rice is expected to be completed by the next couple of days, the DRRO said. General Secretary of Khulna city unit BPUP Prashanta Kumar Kundu has thanked the government for allocating the rice to assist the Sanaton community people of Khulna in celebrating Durga Puja. He also expressed deep gratitude for taking adequate security measures by the law enforcement agencies and authorities concerned to ensure peacefulcelebrations of the ‘Sharodiyo’ Durga Puja festival. Besides, Khulna City Corporation (KCC) will distribute Taka 6, 73,000 among the 78 puja mandaps authorities. “KCC will hand over cash money to the puja udjapon parishad committees in the city on Wednesday,” Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque confirmed to BSS today. Last year, a total of 485.5 metric tonnes of rice were distributed among 971 puja mandaps and KCC distributed Taka 6, 58,000 among 75 puja mandaps.
