Ex-banker gets 24-yr imprisonment in graft case

A Dhaka court today sentenced Zahid Sarwar, former Assistant Vice President of Mutual Trust Bank (MTB), to 24 years and his wife Farhana Habib to seven years of imprisonment in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of embezzlement.As the duo is absconding, Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of Dhaka Special Judge Court-9 issued warrant against them following the verdict.According to the case document, Sarwar and his wife forged bank cheques with fake signatures and embezzled around Taka 5.48 crore at different times from 2016 to 2018.On December 10 in 2019, ACC Assistant Director Shafi Ullah filed the case.
