BNP’s march, security arrangements lead to long tailback in Aminbazar

As BNP started its march from Dhaka’s Gabtoli, a 1.5-km tailback was created on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar’s Aminbazar, the entry point of the capital

Vehicular movement from Gabtoli to Salehpur Bridge was halted from around 11:00am, reports our Savar correspondent.

Al Mahmud, a Dhaka-bound passenger of Selfie Paribahan, told The Daily Star that his bus had been stationary for about 30 minutes. “I heard that there is a traffic jam in Gabtoli because of the check-post set up by police for the BNP’s march programme.”

Dhaka District North Traffic Inspector (Administration) Hossain Shahid Chowdhury told The Daily Star that BNP began the march from Gabloti and check-post activities were also going on. Traffic congestion has been created on the Dhaka-bound lane in Aminbazar for these reasons, he said.

However, Deepak Chandra Saha, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said, “No check post has been set up on the highway today. But police beefed up security on the highway.”BNP leaders and activists started their road march programme at 11:30am today to press home their one-point demand for polls under a non-party interim government.

They started the march from Gabtoli’s SA Khalek Bus Counter area. They will end the march at Roy Shaheb Baazar intersection in the capital.
