Another mortar shell fired from Myanmar lands in Ghumdhum

Another mortar shell fired from Myanmar exploded in Ghumdhum union iof Bandarbans district on Tuesday morning.No one, however, was injured in the incident.Md Anwar Hossain, a member of ward no.5 of Ghumdhum, said the mortar shell fell on the courtyard of a house around 9am.

Earlier, on Monday afternoon, two people, including a Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya man were killed after a mortar shell fired from Myanmar after crossing the border exploded in Ghumdhum union.Meanwhile, public relations department of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said firing between the Arakan Army and Myanmar border force has been continuing on the other side of the border since Sunday.On Tuesday morning some 114 more members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) crossed the border at Tumbru and took shelter in Bangladesh.With the new members, the number of BGP, who took shelter rose to 229, said Border Guard Bangladesh.Ghumdhum Police Outpost In-Charge (IC) Mahfuz Imtiaz Bhuiyan said the sound of gunfire was heard throughout the night. No major damage was reported till 10:45am, he added.Police and BGB, however, are on alert so that no one can infiltrate from Myanmar. They are working to ensure maximum security of the locals living along the border as per the instructions of the higher authorities of the district police, he said.
