21 BNP men jailed in vandalizing, mugging case

A court here today convicted and sentenced 21 leaders and activists of BNP including former central leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Ishak Ali Sarkar to two-year imprisonment in a case lodged for vandalizing vehicles and snatching money from the drivers.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque pronounced the judgment in absence of the convicts, and issued warrant to arrest them.

Sub-inspector Ershad Hossain of Kotwali Police Station filed the case on October 2, 2013. Police on May 18, 2015, filed charge-sheet against 57 in the case and the court on July 31, 2023, fixed today to pronounce the judgment.

According to the case documents, BNP leaders and activists on October 1, 2013, blockaded Babubazar Bridge area and started hurling brickbats at police indiscriminately.

 They vandalized 5/6 vehicles and snatched money from the drivers of those vehicles.
