2 prime accused put on remand over attack on Hero Alam

A Dhaka court today placed two ‘prime accused’- Manik Rajib and Al Amin- on a three-day remand in the case filed over the attack on Ashraful Alom alias Hero Alom, an independent candidate in the Dhaka-17 by-polls.Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque passed the order as police produced the duo before the court and pleaded to place them on seven-day remand each.Police arrested Manik and Al Amin from Tejgoan area in the city last night. Police said that they were the main attackers on Hero Alam.Officer-in-charge (OC) of Banani Police Station, Mostafizur Rahman, said CCTV camera footage shows Manik Gazi was holding Hero Alom’s waist during the attack while Al Amin was beating Hero Alom.A total of nine people were arrested in connection with the attack, so far.Earlier, police arrested seven youths in connection with the assault. They are Sanowar Kazi, 28, Biplob Hossain, 31, Mahmudul Hasan, 27, Mozahid Khan, 27, Ashik Sarkar, 24, Ridhoy Sheikh, 24, and Sohel Mollah, 25.Two of them – Sanowar Kazi and Biplob Hossain – were placed on a three-day remand on Tuesday and the remaining accused are behind bars.
