11 dengue patient die, 2,242 hospitalised in 24 hrs

A total of 11 dengue patients died and 2,242were admitted to different hospitals in the country during the last 24 hourstill 8 am today.”During the period, 1,239 dengue patients were hospitalised in Dhaka city and1,003 were admitted to different hospitals outside it,” a press release ofthe Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.”This year, 167 deaths were reported from dengue disease while 281 died lastyear,” the daily statement of the DGHS said.With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 30,685, thestatement said, adding: “Some 23,862 patients were released from differenthospitals this year among the total patients.”Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recently issuedcomprehensive instructions on prevention of dengue infection as the mosquito-borne tropical disease has increased sharply in the current year.According to the DGHS data, dengue infection has increased five times in thefirst five months of this year compared to the same period of the last year.Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness that occurs in tropical andsubtropical areas of the world. Outbreaks of the disease are usuallyseasonal, peaking during and after the rainy season.
